hot or cold work, my husband prefers hot. are you on an acute medication like indomethacin? after years of taking this, your blood needs to be tested again to see if you need to be put on the daily medication, allopurinol. avoid beer, wine, red meats, and tomatoes. goodluck.

Do a cold pack for twenty minutes then do a hot pack for twenty minutes. The cold will bring swelling down and numb it to feel better long. the hot will ease the pain fast but won’t last as long.

Neither, gout is a systemic metabolic disease, caused by elevated uric acid, thus you need to lower your uric acid to have pain relief, all others are palliative treatments. Its better to get prescription for the strongest pain relief drugs. There are drugs during gout attacks and another drug to prevent attacks. Consult your doctor about this. Moreover, check your diet, you might be taking in a lot of high purine foods.
